The Maker & The Mission

A Second Act

My name is Randy Green. Green & Gilt Co. was born during one of the hardest chapters of my life. A workplace injury forced me to slow down and figure out who I was when I couldn't do the physical work that had defined me for years. What came out of that season was a business built around things I care deeply about: the natural world, the craftsmanship of the past, and the kind of art that asks something of the person looking at it.

The Specimen Archive

On one side there are the specimens. Ethically sourced insects, hand mounted, and paired with original artwork. My designs are inspired by classical mythology, natural science, and the Victorian tradition of treating nature as something worth celebrating and studying in equal measure.

In a market where most of what you find is drop shipped from overseas and assembled by no one in particular, Green & Gilt Co. exists to be the alternative. Every specimen I mount was touched by my hands. There is a person behind all of it.

The Art

On another side there is the work I make on paper. Original prints that don't decorate a room so much as occupy it. Dark, deliberate, and made from the same place the specimens come from: a belief that the things worth keeping are the ones that were made with real intention. Limited runs. Some will never exist again once they are gone

Furniture and Restoration

On the other side, there is the furniture. These are vintage and antique pieces restored and given a second life. This part of the business is still growing, but the philosophy is the same. Things built with care deserve to be preserved, not thrown away. Good bones are worth saving.

Honor the Past

That thread runs through everything I do here. Nature preserved. History restored. Whether it is a framed butterfly or a century old chair, the idea is the same. Honor what came before. Make it worth keeping.

I am based in the Portland, Oregon area and I make everything myself. When you buy from Green & Gilt Co. you are buying from a person, not a warehouse. Someone who put real time, real skill, and real intention into what you are holding.
